We Are Open

Middlesbrough has joined the growing empty shop movement that is opening up prime retail spaces to artists.

The project aims to revived town centres with a fresh and innovative arts, design and retail experience, creating a brighter town centre environment.

From January 2010 artists from all disciplines will be located in various town centre locations selling and showing work through exhibitions, gigs, film screenings and workshops.

Spaces will be inhabited and animated for a day, a week a month or longer creating an element of surprise for consumers who are guaranteed exclusivity because of the limited lifespan.

Following a special Christmas opening event the We Are Open shop promises to go from strength to strength and from 19th January will be showcasing the North East’s finest artists and designers.

First through the doors is Design Mob, Olivia Monaghan's group of handpicked designers selling an extensive collection of bespoke and limited edition design pieces and unique gifts.

The Shop will open 6 days a week:
10am–5pm Tue – Sat and 10 am–4pm Sun.
